The Wreckage on the Mountain - James Jatkevicius

Along the trail once more you follow as far as it goes
Near the top you find the Liberator’s nose
It met earth, gave way as the earth pushed through
Buds in bloom where the canopy grew

A winter night, no stars, no view
A training flight, that fell from flew
These barren haunts, where days are long
But in descent, they spark and are gone

And just beyond where you can hear
Roam the sounds you once held dear
The wind above the heartleaf birch
Has arrived as you turn for the worst

There’s two ways up it seems, and just one down
And all is lost when you hear that sound
instinct hums to beating wings
A heavy coat for what the night will bring

A winter night, no stars, no view
A training flight, that fell from flew
Barren haunts, and days are long
But in descent, they spark and are gone

And just beyond where you can hear
Roam the sounds you once held dear
The wind above the heartleaf birch
Has arrived as you turn for the worst

A littered trail once fresh and new
So like the lies that aged from true
And down below and just behind
You’re surprised at what you can’t find

A winter night, no stars, no view
A training flight, that fell from flew
Barren haunts, and days are long
But in descent, they spark and are gone

And just beyond where you can hear
Roam the sounds you once held dear
The wind above the heartleaf birch
Has arrived as you turn for the worst
